Gert Heinrich Wollheim (1894-1974) was a German painter associated with the New Objectivity but also with expressionism. Some of his works seem to me inspired by the Isenheim altarpiece, a work from the 16th century known to have been a source of inspiration for Otto Dix, a painter who was close to Wollheim.
Labeled as a « degenerate artist » by the Nazi regime, he fled to France and settled in the U.S. after the war.
